HK likely has Asia's highest virus testing rate

The Controller of the Centre for Health Protection, Dr Wong Ka-hing, said as of yesterday, Hong Kong has done about 90,000 coronavirus tests, or about 12,000 tests per 1 million people and the rate could be the highest in Asia.

He said South Korea has done 7,000 tests per 1 million people.

As for the "Enhanced Laboratory Surveillance Programme," Wong said in the past few days, the return rate of throat samples from patients was between 75 and 80 percent, which is “rather good.''

He said as part of the Junior Police Call Permanent Activity Centre in Pat Heung can now be used for quarantine, all such centers can provide 1,600 to 1,700 units.

Wong said experts had suggested last month that when quarantine units occupancy is near saturation point, some people could complete four days of quarantine at home after spending 10 days in centers. But they must be asymptomatic, and may only leave after being tested and following  evaluation by doctors.
