More than 5,300 quarantined at home

Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said today 5,362 people are being mandatorily quarantined at home and that the Department of Justice and Department of Health are preparing to prosecute the several people who allegedly breach the order.

Secretary for Food and Health, Sophia Chan Siu-chee said 4,782 are Hong Kong people, and 580 are non-Hong Kong people. Three people attempted to leave Hong Kong but were successfully intercepted and sent to quarantine centers.

Secretary for Security, John Lee Ka-chiu, said apart from the police, fire services, immigration, customs, and correctional services will also conduct random checks from tomorrow onwards.

The maximum penalty for breaching the mandatory quarantine order is six months of imprisonment and a HK$25,000 fine.
