The president of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Tony Chan, has decided to step down in September next year - one year before his term of office ends.

In a press release, Chan said he was leaving "to support the university's growth and development". He said that after his nine-year tenure, it was time to start planning the next stage of his life and career.

Chan said he will help the university council to find his successor in the interim, adding that the sooner the search begins, the stronger the university's future would be.-RTHK
