China reported 22 new mainland infections on May 17, down from 25 a day earlier.

The National Health Commission, in a statement, said four of the new patients were local infections in northeastern Liaoning province. The rest were imported infections that originated from overseas.

The number of new non symptomatic cases, which China does not classify as confirmed, increased to 20 from 17 a day earlier.
