Early investigations into 51 more locals diagnosed with the coronavirus infections on Thursday in Hebei province show that the earliest symptoms were detected on December 20 and that many of the infected had attended gatherings, including weddings, the China Daily reports.

"The cluster of infections in Shijiazhuang has been around for a while because some patients have tested positive for antibodies which means they have been infected for about a week," Lu Hongzhou, a professor at Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center, said during a television interview.

Xingtai, another city in Hebei province, reported two confirmed local coronavirus patients on Friday, increasing its total to nine.

The city is also carrying out testing for the new coronavirus disease, the China Daily reports.

Beijing, located next to Hebei province, has sent medical experts to support prevention and control work, Gao Xiaojun, a spokesman for the capital's health commission, said on Thursday. The experts joined a National Health Commission team sent previously to Hebei.

Hebei has asked residents not to travel to Beijing unless absolutely necessary.

People who need to travel to Beijing must provide a negative nucleic acid test result within 72 hours before entering the capital.
