770 million employed, China says

The number of employed people in China stood at 770 million by the end of 2019, with the proportion of the tertiary industry rising to 47.4 percent, China Daily reports.

Among them, the population of urban employment reached 440 million, according to data released by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.

The primary, secondary and tertiary industries accounted for 25.1 percent, 27.5 percent and 47.4 percent of the total employed people, respectively.

According to the ministry, people employed in the tertiary industry saw growth for the fifth consecutive year, up five percentage points from 2015.

Last year, the number of rural migrant workers totaled 290 million, among which 120 million were local, up 0.7 percent or 820,000 from the previous year, and 170 million went outside, up 0.9 percent or 1.59 million from the previous year.
