Deaths add up 1,380 and 116 more lives lost in Hubei

The death toll from a coronavirus outbreak in China’s Hubei province increased by 116, the province’s health commission said today.

Figures just released show a total of 1,380 deaths in mainland China since the start of the Wuhan virus outbreak.

There are now a total of 55,748 confirmed cases across mainland China.

Figures on the unofficial Tencent tracker are still higher than these government figures, by about 100 deaths, The Guardian reports.

Of the new deaths, 88 occurred in the provincial capital of Wuhan, where the coronavirus is believed to have originated in December.

A further 4,823 cases had been detected in Hubei, taking the total in the province to 51,986. Over four fifths of the province’s new cases were in Wuhan.

The daily toll grew  by a record of more than 240 on Thursday after the commission began counting cases diagnosed through new clinical methods.-Reuters/The Guardian
