At least five flights to Manila, Philippines today from Hong Kong International Airport have been canceled due a volcanic activity near the capital. The flights include Cathay Pacific, budget carrier Cebu Pacific Air, Philippine Airlines, and Philippines Air Asia.

Manila's airpot has been shut down and more than 240 international and domestic flights cancelled so far.

Cathay Pacific Airways said rebooking and rerouting charges will be waived for all tickets issued worldwide (irrespective of fare type) on or before today for travel with Cathay Pacific/Cathay Dragon to and from Manila between today and tomorrow.

The government volcano-monitoring agency raised the danger level around the Taal volcano three notches to level 4, indicating “an imminent hazardous eruption.” Level 5, the highest, means a hazardous eruption is underway, AP reports.-Photo: CNN
