Police confirmed officer on leave after shooting reporter

Police today confirmed that the officer is currently on leave after shooting a Commercial Radio reporter with a sponge round in the early hours this morning.

The Force said they are looking into the incident, and reiterated that they fully respect press freedom while also saying that they will maintain close communication with media organisations to enhance mutual understanding.

In the early hours this morning, police were intending to disperse protesters at Portland Street, before an police officer fired a shot of sponge tipped bullet at the reporter. The round punched a hole in the reporter's backpack, but the reporter was not injured.

This is the second police being put on leave after an online video shows that a motorcycle officer drove into a crowd of black-clad protesters in Kwai Fong earlier in the week.
