The Foreign Affairs Ministry, spokesman, Geng Shuang declined to comment directly today in Beijing when asked about undergraduate Chow Tsz-lok's death.
"This isn't a diplomatic question so I suggest you ask the relevant government department. I will just say this: stopping the violence, eliminating disorder, and restoring order is Hong Kong's most urgent task," Geng told reporters.

Postings online meanwhile, have urged vigils between 7:45pm and 10:00pm including the Tseung Kwan O car park and the Tsim Sha Tsui promenade.

Chow, 22, was a student at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

The college held its graduation ceremony in the morning, and university president Wei Shyy paused the proceedings to announce Chow's death.-AFP/The Standard
