Facilities of 85 rail stations wrecked, Frank Chan says

A total of 85 heavy rail stations out of 93, and 60 out of 68 light rail stations have been vandalized as of October 29, the Secretary for Transport and Housing, Frank Chan Fan, said today.

Despite repairs, some stations and facilities are yet to be repaired, he said.

“Many railway parts need to be re-installed and tested and shipped to Hong Kong.''

Entry and exit gates were broken about 1,600 times, and ticket machines, Octopus add-value machines/enquiry processors and customer service centre facilities about 960 times, he said.

Octopus fare processors on light rail platforms were broken 915 times, he said.

CCTV cameras were broken about 1,100 times, escalators (75 times), lifts (about 50 times), glass panels at station entrances/exits (about 1,060 times).

Roller shutters of station entrances/exits were broken 130 times, he added.
