The police has today denied online rumors alleging that officers disguised as rioters inflicted damage to facilities at the Sheung Shui MTR station last night.

In a statement on Facebook, the police said upon receiving reports of vandalism by rioters, plainclothes officers were deployed to carry out investigation in the station, adding that they certainly did not break the law.

"The police will continue to make use of different methods to combat crimes according to operational needs."

In one video shared online, a resident says he saw a masked man inside Sheung Shui Station at 11:00pm, and when he asked who the man was, he wouldn't say and instead shone a torch at the camera, RTHK reported.

Another video shows the same masked man pointing a canister of pepper spray at people outside. Several other people can also be seen inside the station, wearing black clothes.

But being as all MTR stations were closed by 8:00pm last night for repairs to the vandalized network, social media users wanted to know who the people still inside were.
