The Hong Kong Government posted a full page advertisement in the Australian Financial Review today to assure the business community, saying the “economy and society are strong,” and that Hong Kong remains “a safe, open, welcoming and cosmopolitan society and an internationally connected, vibrant and dynamic economy.''

“We will no doubt bounce back. We always do,” the ad says.

“You have read a lot, seen a lot, heard a lot about the events and protests in Hong Kong,” the ad says at the start. “But what you read, see, hear -- or ‘share’ on social media -- is just one piece of a complex social, economic and political jigsaw puzzle. It is a puzzle that we will solve on our own. And, it may take time.”

The ad says the government is “resolutely committed'' to the 'One Country, Two Systems.'

It says Hong Kong rejects “the use of violence to resolve our current challenges.''

“We place our trust and faith in the rule of law which has served us so well for so many decades.''
