The revitalized waterfront tourist attraction, Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui, emphasizes the landscape design and has doubled the seating area for visitors. It also has increased shaded and green areas.
The Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Cherry Tse, the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Michelle Li, and other guests officiated at the re-opening of the refurbished site, which opens to the public tomorrow, days ahead of the Lunar New Year tourist rush.
Elements associated with the Hong Kong film industry have been improved. In addition to the 107 original hand prints of superstars, nine new hand prints from the winners of Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actress are to be added.
All hand prints have been newly designed and installed on wooden handrails, The hand prints feature the bronze color of the Hong Kong Film Award statuette.
A special pattern on the pavement has been designed to reduce the reflected glare from the sun, while each brick contains glass from recycled bottles.
The promenade has been redesigned by landscape architect James Corner as well as other international and local designers.
