Mother held after 12-year-old girl died

Police said they are investigating a murder case in Mong Kok in which a 12-year-old girl died.

At about 9:10pm on Sunday, police received a report of dispute in a cubicle of a building on 1182 Canton Road in Prince Edward.

When officers reached the scene, they located a woman in uncooperative manner and forcibly entered the cubicle. Some sections of human body were then found inside the bathroom.

After initial investigation, police suspected that the deceased was a 12-year-old girl and her 37-year-old mother was arrested for murder, a statement said.

Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of death of the deceased, police said. Investigation by the District Crime Squad of Mong Kok District is underway.
