DAB lawmaker Elizabeth Quat today urged the police and the sports industry to look into a child sex abuse allegation made by Hong Kong hurdler Vera Lui, warning it is unlikely to be an isolated incident.

Lui, 23, has revealed on social media that she was attacked by her coach around a decade ago after agreeing to go to his home for a massage.

Quat said the allegation may just be the tip of the iceberg and the police should take action.

"I think sexual abuse to children is not just a single incident. There should be many of these kind of incidents in different kinds of industry. So I think this is a very, very serious issue that our whole society has to pay attention to," Quat said.

"Miss Lui is very brave. Hopefully her action will encourage all other victims to stand up for themselves."-Photo: RTHK
