The Hang Seng Index closed 179.24 points lower at 28,309.76 points today.
The biggest loser among blue chips was carmaker BYD (1211), whose shares dropped by 4.04 percent to HK$223.2.
Smartphone maker Xiaomi (1810) fell by 3.22 percent. Tencent (0700) fell by 2.87 percent. Food delivery firm Meituan (3690) lost 2.98 percent.
The best performer was PetroChina (0857), whose shares added 5.85 percent at HK$3.62.
Companies related to Bitcoin fell on Tuesday after the People's Bank of China asked banks and payment firms to crack down on cryptocurrency trading.
Huobi Technology (1611), which operates a cryptocurrency trading platform, slumped more than 20 percent. And Chinese photo editing app Meitu (1357), which bought US$10 million Bitcoin, fell 2.17 percent.
