Galaxy Entertainment (0027) added 6.36 percent, Sands China (1928) ticked up by 6.04 percent, the top two performers among blue chip stocks.
Mainland banks and telecommunication operators outperformed. China Unicom (0762) claimed by 5.5 percent, ICBC (1398) gained by 4.41 percent.
The worst performer among blue chip was Sino Biopharmaceutical (1177), whose shares dropped 3.86 percent.
In mainland China, the Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index climbed by 1.33 percent, at 3,555.28 points, and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange Composite Index was up by 0.74 percent, at 2,350.10 points.
