European markets cautious at open

European stocks struggled for direction on Tuesday morning, with investor focus on coronavirus diseas developments, economic recovery prospects and the outlook for inflation.

The pan-European Stoxx 600 fluctuated either side of the flatline in early trade, with oil and gas stocks rallying 1.6 percent to lead gains while tech stocks were 1.2 percent lower.

European markets are continuing a more cautious trend seen in Asia and the U.S., with investors in the former monitoring technology stocks regionally after their counterparts declined overnight on Wall Street.
