European shares recoup some losses

European stocks mostly pulled back Thursday as global markets reacted to a sharp sell-off on Wall Street, CNBC reports

The pan-European Stoxx 600 was down by 0.5 percent by mid-afternoon, having fallen by more than 2 percent in early trade. Insurance and health care stocks each fell by 1.2 percent while the travel and leisure sector climbed by 1.6 percent

European markets initially mirrored moves on Wall Street in the previous session amid concerns about heightened speculative trading, but recouped some of the losses as the day wore on.
