Mainland China's foreign direct investment and construction projects in countries of the Association of Southeast Asia Nations increased by 85 percent and 33 percent, respectively, compared with the four-year period before the BRI from 2010 to 2013 with the five-year period after, a latest study shows.

The BRI's growth was concentrated in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Vietnam, according to the study by UOB and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Institute of Emerging Markets.

The majority of mainland Chinese greenfield FDI in Asean is in the resource sector, while in some countries, Chinese companies are increasing both greenfield and brownfield investments in renewable energy projects.
