Bauhaus books greater loss of HK$95.2m

Bauhaus International (0483) said it recorded an interim net loss of HK$37.57 million, compared with a loss of HK$95.2 million in the same period last year.

A special dividend of 12 HK cents and an interim dividend of 2.5 HK cents per ordinary share were declared. It did not declare any dividend last year.

The basic loss per share were 10.2 HK cents.

For the six months ended September, turnover dropped by about 58.5 percent on-year to HK$170.6 million.

Hong Kong and Macau sales fell by 49.7 percent while Non-Hong Kong and Macau sales fell 80.8 percent.

Gross profit fell by 53.6 percent to about HK$111.3 million from a year ago. Meanwhile, the gross margin improved by 6.8 percentage points to about 65.2 percent.

As of end-September, the retailer operated 61 self-managed retail shops in Hong Kong and Macau, four shops less than that at end-March. It also shut 23 loss-making stores or sales counters in Taiwan and mainland China from March.
