Swire Properties said its Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu development in Sichuan province is now powered by renewable electricity.

Swire said this makes it one of the first companies in Sichuan to achieve “net zero carbon” in its annual electricity use.

Since opening, Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu has increased the use of renewable energy sources in its electricity mix and achieved 70 percent of its electricity from renewable sources since 2018. Earlier this year, the Sichuan provincial government initiated a new policy that allows enterprises to buy renewable electricity generated by hydropower, as well as solar and wind.

The new policy enables the project to address the remaining 30 percent of electricity use to achieve “net zero carbon.''
