Losses for Hang Seng at midday

Stocks fell by more than 1 percent in Hong Kong by the midday break today. The benchmark Hang Seng Index tumbled by 1.17 percent, or 307.30 points, to 25,902.86.

China Life Insurance Company (2628) dropped the most among blue chips, falling by 5.55 percent at HK$19.74.

Smartphone components maker Sunny Optical Technology (2382) lost 3.39 percent at HK$142.40. Shares of local developers and catering operators overall dropped.

New World Development (2909) shed 3.74 percent at HK$39.90.

Index heavyweight Tencent (0700) also fell by 1.69 percent to HK$553.50. Geely Automobile (0175) gained by 4.13 percent, trading at HK$17.64 and becoming the biggest percentage winner among blue chips. Pharmaceutical stocks gained. Sino Biopharmaceutical (1177) added 2.42 percent at HK$15.26.

In mainland China, the Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index gave up 1.05 percent at 3,414.21. The Shenzhen Stock Exchange Composite Index was flat at 2,260.60.
