HK consumer confidence tumbles further

The confidence of consumers hit a second low since 2008 in the first quarter, City University of Hong Kong announced.

The consumer confidence index was down by 19.5 percent over last quarter or 31.7 percent year-on-year to 55.3.

The index plunged in four aspects, including stock investment, price level, livelihood and employment.

The index on stock investment was at 50, down by 37.3 percent year-on-year and 25.7 percent percent quarter-on-quarter. For price levels, the index dropped by 25.9 percent over 2019. For livelihood, the index plunged by 31.7 percent. For employment, the index fell by 42 percent.
