1,250 human placenta jabs seized in Qingdao

Customs in the city of Qingdao in eastern Shandong Province, said they seized 1,250  human placenta extract injections from an inbound flight from the baggage of a Chinese passenger who was trying to bring them from Japan to China, without customs declaration and quarantine certificates, Xinhua reports.

There is a thriving undergrounf makert for the product in China, although the trade is banned. Chinese believe that placenta is good for their beauty and blood.

The dried placenta, is known in Chinese as ziheche. 

The practice of eating one’s placenta after birth, dates back over 2,000 years in China and is believed to have anti-aging benefits, as wel, state media CGTN has reported.

Qingdao Customs said human placenta extract injections that have not been quarantined might carry hepatitis or HIV, posing a risk to consumers in the domestic market.-Xinhua/The Standard
