Although Hong Kong's Daniel Chan Ho-yuen lost 1-2 to Daiki Kajiwara from Japan in the last group stage game, Chan ranked second in the group and advanced to the quarter-final of wheelchair badminton.
Chan was off to a good start as he won the first game 21-13. However Kajiwara soon equalized after winning 21-12 in the second game. In the third game, Kajiwara performed more steadily and better, winning 21-13.
Chan in a post-match interview said it has been two years since he last played against Kajiwara and he is surprised by his growth during this period. He also believed Kajiwara is able to win the gold medal as he is player with perseverance and he knows the arena well.
Chan hoped he could perform better in the next round, saying his performance dropped after winning the first game. He also hoped he would play against Kajiwara one more time if he can further progress in the tournament.
After this last group stage game, Chan ranked second in Group C of the men's singles WH2 event and advanced to the quarter-final. He will face Martin Rooke from Great Britain at 6.40pm today.
