The Li Ka Shing Foundation said it will further discuss the details of a HK$1 billion donation with government officials.

It has announced to donate the fund in support of local small and medium enterprises which are under severe duress from unprecedented challenges on the home front and a slowdown in the global economy.

The funds will complement the government’s own relief measures and reimbursement mechanism to best assist local SMEs to weather the slowdown.

“The donation works in conjunction with the HK$2 billion package of relief measures recently announced by the government. I hope that HK$1 billion donation will spark more support for the embattled SMEs. All suggestions are welcome and let’s work together during these difficult times.” said Li Ka-shing, chairman of the foundation.
