A police sergeant escaped more serious injury after a protester slashed his neck with a paper cutter in Kwun Tong amid citywide flash mobs in all 18 districts.

Sergeant Leung Shiu-cheung, 43, a team leader of the police Kowloon East division, was bleeding profusely when he was rushed in a police vehicle that could have saved his life, instead of waiting for an ambulance.

Police could only confirm an officer was slashed in the neck from behind by a protester during a confrontation while handling a criminal damage case at Kwun Tong MTR station at 5.30pm.

He was bleeding when he was sent conscious to United Christian Hospital. Two men, including the suspected slasher, were arrested on the spot. But the cutter was not found on the two suspects.

Leung was admitted in serious condition and was no longer in a life-threatening condition after treatment.

Rioters' behavior has seriously threatened the personal safety of police officers. Assaults using a sharp object can be fatal,” a police spokesman said.
