HK-based Pure Yoga pulls out of Taiwan on weak businessBusiness | 19 Dec 2018 4:46 pm
Hong Kong-based lifestyle and fitness brand Pure Group announced today that it will close its Pure Yoga business in Taiwan on January 25 because of its poor results.
"Unfortunately we've had to make a tough decision in light of the current market situation as the Taiwan market is not currently financially viable for us," according to Pure Yoga on its Facebook page.
The company did not elaborate, however, on what measures it planned to take to support its existing members in Taiwan, and the company's phone lines were repeatedly busy when CNA tried to reach it.
According to the Chinese-language United Daily News, a Pure Yoga public relations officer said the closure would affect its 5,000 members and 100 workers in Taiwan and that members will be assisted with refund procedures to protect their rights.
The group, which has operated two yoga studios in Taipei for 12 years, said the move was specific to its Taiwan business and had no impact on other operations in Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai and Beijing, where its expansion is continuing as planned.
The expansion includes the opening of three new locations next month: Pure Fitness and Pure Yoga in Century Link, Shanghai, and Pure Yoga in Republic Plaza, Singapore.
