Chinese mobile phone shipments slump by 20pc in August

Mobile phone shipments reached 32.6 million units in August in China, down by 20.9 percent year-over-year, according to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology. Also, 55 new models were released in the month, down by 38.9 percent on-year.

Over the past eight months, mobile phone shipments reached 265.6 million units and the number of new models released was 544, down by 17.7 percent and 22.3 percent, respectively.

Mobile phone shipments by Chinese brands in August was 30.3 million units, down by 20.6 percent, accounting for 92.8 percent of all shipments. The number of new models released by domestic brands fell by 33.3 percent to 52 units and represented 94.5 percent of the total number of new models released in August.
