US enjoys US$2.5b June trade surplus with Hong Kong

The US registered a US$2.5 billion trade surplus with Hong Kong in June, Commerce Department data show today.

Early last month, the Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said the US notched up a US$32.8 billion merchandise trade surplus with Hong Kong last year and it was the highest trade surplus it had with any single economy. She noted the trade surplus in a speech at the United States Independence Day reception.

The same evening, the US Consul General Kurt W. Tong said there are more than 1,400 U.S. businesses operating in Kong Kong.

Also, this year marks the 175th anniversary of the U.S. diplomatic presence in Hong Kong.-The Standard
