The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority announced today the appointment of Betty Fung Ching Suk-yee as Chief Executive Officer, effective October 15 for a term of three years.
Following a 6-month global search, the authority said Betty Fung Ching Suk-yee proved herself to be the best candidate for the CEO position.
Henry Tang Ying-yen, Chairman of the Board of WKCDA, said Fung’s exceptional leadership and industry expertise in the fields of local arts and culture are invaluable to the development of the District.
Meanwhile, Fung said she was deeply honored to have been given the opportunity to nurture and build an iconic cultural district in Hong Kong, with the aim of bringing it to the global stage, and especially to provide steer on the impending opening of two world-class museums, M+ and the Hong Kong Palace Museum.
“I look forward to working with the incredible team of WKCDA to take the District to the much-anticipated next phase,’ she added.
When asked if she would interfere with the museum’s exhibitions regarding the contents, banning sensitive topics like the June 4 Tiananmen crackdown or the anti-extradition movement, she said she would not and should not be involved in the planning stage of the exhibitions.
However, she stressed the authority, as a public organization, should abide by the law at all times.
