A 22-year-old police officer from the Kwai Tsing criminal investigation unit was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

The officer was accused of forging a statement and a signature during an investigation of a theft at a leading chain store.

The statement stated that the informant has given up pursuing the theft case, in which the Kwai Tsing criminal investigation unit arrested a suspect for.

The forgery was revealed after the superior of the police officer noticed that the signature on the statement was signed by an employee, instead of the person-in-charge, of the store.

The police officer is currently under suspension.

The case has been passed to the New Territories South regional crime squad. The Kwai Tsing criminal investigation unit (Team 6), responsible for the theft case, will also be put under investigation.
