(Athletics) Sprinter Ge Manqi aims to qualify for Tokyo

Chinese sprinter Ge Manqi said today that her goal is to qualify for the postponed Tokyo Olympics final of the women's 100 meter race, after the 22-year-old set her personal best time of 22.69s in the 200m last Sunday, Xinhua reports.
In an event organized by the Chinese Athletics Association in the country's southeastern city of Fuzhou, Ge improved on her previous personal best of 23.12s, with her new mark also representing the fastest 200m time by a Chinese woman since 1998.
"I didn't expect such a good results in 200m. I just followed the guidance of the coach to keep the rhythm, and I am satisfied with the results," Ge said.
The young prospect also secured title in 100m race on Saturday, setting a time of 11.31s in the final. "I entered the 100m semifinal in World Championships in Doha. And I want to go one step forward in Tokyo to qualify for the final," she added.
Ge's good form has continued since 2019, when she lowered the women's 60m national record to 7.10s and set a personal best time in the 100m of 11.04s.
