Virus vaccine a long time coming

Monday, April 06, 2020

The death rate  of infected virus patients in Hong Kong could rise if the hospital system buckles under the strain of rising numbers, the dean of the University of Hong Kong's Faculty of Medicine, Professor Gabriel Leung, cautioned today.

He also estimated that a vaccine for the new coronavirus  will take one to one and a half years to be successfully developed.

Because vaccines are difficult to produce in a short time, he hopes that Hong Kong people will continue do their best to contain the epidemic and avoid the collapse of the health care system.
