2,393 students arrested since June; 16,000 rounds of tear gas fired

The police said today 42 people, including 37 males and five females, aged between 14 and 63 years were arrested over the weekend.

Also, since June 9, 6,022 people have been arrested. Among them are 4,474 males and 1,548 females, aged between 11 and 84 years. Senior Superintendent, Kong Wing-cheung, said 2,393 were students, accounting for nearly 40 percent.

About 16,000 rounds of tear gas, 10,000 rubber bullets, 2,000 bean bag rounds and 1,850 sponge bullets were fired since June 9, Kong said. A total of 493 police officers were injured.
