Dream of the Red Chamber marks Open University milestone

The Open University of Hong Kong is presenting a large-scale Cantonese opera concert, "Dream of the Red Chamber'' as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations, at the Grand Theatre of the Xiqu Centre in West Kowloon Cultural District on Saturday.

The evening will being with a showing of “A Glimpse at the Red Chamber,'' a video-recorded dialogue with insights shared by Professor ‎Kenneth Pai Hsien-yung and Professor Liu Zaifu.

Followign that, a  feature dance performance “Daiyu Joins the Jia Family,'' choreographed by the Artistic Director of Hong Kong Dance Company, Yang Yuntao, will be performed by a group of fresh graduates of the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts.

Cantonese opera virtuosos Tse Kwok-cheung, Li Qiuyuan and Jiang Wenduan will join with some young artists to perform five classic Cantonese opera excerpts including “Daiyu Buries Falling Flowers,'' “Qingwen Mends the Peacock Cloak,'' “Burning her Verses, Daiyu Passes Away,'' “Baoyu Regrets His Marriage” and “Everlasting Regret at the Land of Illusion,'' to revisit the enchanting and unforgettable love story between Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu.
