Chui Chuen-shun, the father of celebrity Cathy Lee Chui Chi-kay, walked free after the prosecution dropped a bribery charge against him and two business partners.

Chui, 63, had been jointly charged with former Hong Kong Resources Holdings chairman Kennedy Wong Yin- ho, 54, and Richard Yin Ying-neng, 64, with offering an advantage to an agent.

However when the three appeared at the District Court yesterday for a pretrial review the prosecution said it was dropping the case, though it was still pursuing another charge against Wong.

The three were directors of another firm, Perfect Ace Investments, which owned 23.75 percent of Hong Kong Resources.

They were accused of making an illegal agreement to pay fees for services rendered to Hui Ho-ming, former executive director of Ocean Grand Chemicals Holdings, the company with which they had entered into a restructuring agreement in 2007.

Restructuring was to be completed in September next year, with Perfect Ace becoming the major shareholder of Ocean Grand and Wong becoming the company's chairman.

Wong faces another charge. It is alleged that on or about August 19, 2009, he offered share options worth HK$1.8 million to Hui, whose company was participating in the Hong Kong Resources' acquisition of the five subsidiaries of 3D-Gold.

Cathy Lee is a well-known local actress who is married to Martin Lee Ka- shing, son of Henderson Land boss Lee Shau-kee.
