'I had to keep going'

Tottenham forward Son Heung Min says it has been a tough few days since his tackle led to Everton midfielder Andre Gomes' terrible ankle injury but it's important for him to focus on football again.

Son scored twice in Spurs' 4-0 win over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League and thanked the fans for the support he had received since last weekend's incident at Goodison Park.

"It has been a really tough few days," the South Korean star said. "I have realized how lucky I am with all the support I have had from the fans and my teammates.

"I'm really sorry for the accident and the situation but I had to focus for the team and I had to keep going. It was the right response to all the people who have supported me."

Son was visibly upset after he tackled Gomes, who suffered a fracture dislocation to his right ankle. He was sent off for the tackle but the red card was later overturned by the Football Association.

In Belgrade, Giovani Lo Celso and Christian Eriksen also scored for Spurs, who now sit second in Group B on seven points from four games, five behind leaders Bayern Munich. "It's a difficult place to come to but we executed the game plan," manager Mauricio Pochettino said.
