The london design Festival recently awarded Tom Dixon the 2019 London Design Medal - the highest accolade bestowed upon an individual who has distinguished themselves within the industry and demonstrated consistent design excellence.
But the industry veteran, who left corporate life to start his eponymous brand in 2002, feels he has only just begun.
He said, tongue-in-cheek: "I'm still confused as to why I won't be getting the Emerging Design Medal, as it still feels very much like I have only just started - I've so much left to design! But I'm very touched to be noticed by this super jury, thank you very much."
For the festival, which runs from September 14 to 22, Dixon will host TouchySmellyFeelyNoisyTasty at his King's Cross hub.
The Coal Office will be turned into a multi-sensory lab with talks, workshops, parties and events taking place in the shop, factory, restaurant and gallery. Dixon will be there giving and hosting Tom Talks.
As its name implies, the open house encourages visitors to roam through The Coal Office to see, hear, touch, smell and taste the different experiences Dixon has to offer. Using a specially designed map, guests can navigate their way from the reception to the factory and arches of the shop, visiting each of the exhibitions and marking them off.
Upon completion of the game, they will receive a limited-edition Tom Dixon tote bag, with limited allocations per day.
Among the latest designs on show are the Fat, Swirl, Spring and Opal collections as well as Dixon's two new fragrances, Alchemy and Underground, available for sale at the flagship shop.
