Filipina and son fight to remain in IsraelWorld | 13 Aug 2019
The deportation from Israel of a Filipina and her locally born son was delayed at the 11th hour to await a court decision.
Rosemarie Perez was grabbed by immigration officials along with son Rohan, 13, last week for being in Israel illegally.
They were sent to Ben-Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv on Sunday night but then taken off a plane, said Beth Franco of the United Children of Israel. A lawyer had requested an urgent hearing on their status in a bid to remain.
They argue it is cruel to send Rohan to a country he has never seen and where he does not speak the language. An immigration spokeswoman said Perez "has been here illegally for 10 years."
