Studio Ashby unveils designs for exclusive residences at London’s One Crown Place

Located in Central London, One Crown Place is designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) and developed by Malaysian infrastructure conglomerate MTD Group. A major new mixed-use scheme, One Crown Place is now home to the Sophie Ashby Collection – a combination of one and three-bedroom and three bedroom duplexes.

John Bushell, principal at KPF said: “Our vision for One Crown Place was to respect its context, using the buildings and materials of the past, and evolve this into an intricate and innovative design that will transform the area.”

Delivering a total of 246 private apartments, including a fully restored Georgian terrace which will be transformed into a 42-room luxury boutique hotel, the complex will feature a destination restaurant alongside a private members’ club with exclusive access for residents.

Studio Ashby has designed the interiors of nine exclusive apartments at One Crown Place, inspired by the City of London’s historic past, combining modern luxury with handcrafted tradition.

The studio’s founder and creative director Sophie Ashby commented: “We curate each space and each project so carefully in the hope that we might tell a few stories that our view truly connects with. We work with local craftsmen, artists, makers and creators to produce interiors that are personal and alive.”

During the planning, Studio Ashby worked with KPF’s dynamic architecture style and floor plate, to preserve the wide vistas, keeping the façade free of built-in joinery. This has worked to strengthen the connection between the interior and exterior.

“We explored at great length, the angles of the two towers, to ensure the views across the London skyline are maximised for those inside,” said Bushell. “It is also designed to have minimal impact on its surroundings, allowing as much natural light as possible to reach the public courtyard and streets below.”

Studio Ashby used an array of different marbles throughout, exposed in their natural form. One of the stand-out moments of the scheme is the integration of crafted tactile finishes and practical kitchen design. The studio used pyrolave glazed volvic lava and pippy elm to adorn each kitchen island, fusing the raw and refined. In the centre of the master en suite, rich, Verde Antique marble has been set alongside muted polishes, plaster and natural Atlantic stone.

The natural based palette is layered with muted Georgian tones. Bolder colours come from the surrounding furniture and artwork, whilst the walls are adorned with a selection of art sourced from local galleries and artists to form a look that appears to have been established over time.

Henry Robinson, senior director, central London development at CBRE, said: “The Sophie Ashby Collection of residences at One Crown Place have beautiful, bespoke interiors. Embracing the old-meets-new character of the City and Hackney, the development is an antidote to the capital’s ubiquitous glass towers, artfully combining original heritage buildings with striking modern architecture.”

One Crown Place has additionally partnered with leading Italian brand, B&B Italia for its 246 apartments and penthouses. As part of the collaboration, B&B Italia are designing a pop-up retail experience in Hong Kong recently which sets to bring One Crown Place to life.
