Bushra Jamil, the Pakistani who sacked her Filipino domestic helper after she was diagnosed with cancer, is from a prominent family and once represented Pakistan at the world's Miss Tourism Pageant.
She was a third runner up in Miss Pakistan World in 2007, and represented Pakistan in the World Miss University pageant and Miss Tourism Pageant in the same year.
Her father, Raghbi Syed Jamil, was highly respected in the city and has been photographed with all four chief executives.
His personal Facebook account has a photo of him shaking hands with Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng-Yuet-ngor. In 2016, he was awarded the Chief Executive's Commendation for Community Service from former chief executive Leung Chun-ying.
He also had photos with former leaders Donald Tsang Yam-kuen and Tung Chee-hwa posted on his social media account.
He had been invited to attend many official events, including the National Day reception in 2016 and 2017, and the Home Affairs Bureau's Spring reception in 2018.
In 2014, he also attended a meeting of the ethnic minorities forum organized by the Home Affairs Bureau to speak on behalf of the Muslim association.
