Another deadly blast hits Jiangsu

China | AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE 1 Apr 2019

An explosion outside an electronics component manufacturer in Kunshan, Jiangsu, killed seven people and injured five, one critically.

The blast followed a container for storing scrap metal bursting into flames near the Kunshan Waffer Technology Corp factory in an export processing zone, though local authorities were last night trying to determine what caused the blaze and blast.

The fire from the storage unit also spread to a nearby factory workshop. The incident came barely a week after one of the country's worst recent industrial accidents. An explosion at a chemical plant also in Jiangsu killed 78 people and injured hundreds.

That huge blast in the eastern city of Yancheng also toppled several buildings in an industrial park and damaged many homes.

It prompted the State Council to order a national inspection of chemical firms, with instructions to identify hazards.
