Portugal will compete against the World Series core teams at the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens in April.

The Portuguese were invited by World Rugby to complete the 16-team field for the April 5-7 showpiece event, where Fiji will be defending their title.

Team USA, who have made every cup final of the four tournaments disputed so far this season, are level with powerhouse New Zealand at the top of the World Series table on 76 points. New Zealand won the Dubai and Sydney tournaments.

South Africa, England, Australia, Scotland, Spain, Argentina, Samoa, Canada, France, Kenya, Wales and Japan are the other core teams in the tournament.

Hosts Hong Kong, meanwhile, will again try to secure a World Series place when they take part in the Qualifier with 11 other regional contenders.

The Philippine will make their debut in the Qualifier as the other Asian representatives.

Germany, Russia, Ireland, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Jamaica, Uruguay, Chile, the Cook Islands and Tonga are the other teams looking for promotion to the World Series. Germany are among the favorites after reaching last year's final.

The Women's Qualifier also promises to be exciting, with Hong Kong among the 12 hopefuls.

Uganda will make their debut, joining fellow African representatives Kenya.

Belgium, Poland, Scotland, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Papua New Guinea, Japan and Kazakhstan are also in the lineup.

The draw for all three competitions will be held on March 11 at Hysan Place.
