Dragon and Lion Dance for an Auspicious Year of the Pig
Dragon and lion dances are not only the hallmark of Chinese New Year celebrations, but also highly anticipated for the Lantern Festival. This year, a local association of Macao will be holding dragon and lion dances as a highlight. Religious rituals will first be held at 9am to kick start the event. A short dragon and lion dance parade will follow at 9:30 am to Senado Square for the opening ceremony, which will take place at the historical Si San Kit Yee Tong, Na Tcha Temple at 10am. Then, 3 separate dragon and lion dance teams will spread blessings in several city districts, wishing everyone an auspicious Year of the Pig.
Hong Kung Lantern Carnival
Aside from riveting dragon and lion dances, there is also the Hong Kung Lantern Carnival which will follow shortly after on 19 Feb. You will be able to celebrate and admire beautiful lanterns with loved ones at the awe-inspiring Hong Kung Temple. After the opening ceremony at Largo do Pagode do Bazar, there will be a lion dance and God of Fortune parade, bestowing the good wish of prosperity on everyone. This is followed by more cultural performances at 8pm, as well as lantern riddles and delicious rice dumplings refreshments in the evening. Game booths are also available. Adults and children alike will have a great time.
The wait is finally over. From 2-31 March, the world-famous hip hop dance crew Jabbawockeez will finally be gracing Macao, holding its first-ever residency show. Raved as one of the world's most influential dance crews, Jabbawockeez is known for their energetic mix of various contemporary choreographies, which is perfect to be admired at the MGM Theater in COTAI.
The show, dubbed 'true to yourself', will give audiences an up-close performance with MGM Theater's state-of-the-art audio, visual and lighting equipment, brining a whole new dynamic to MGM's lineup of innovative and unparalleled entertainment experiences in 2019. The group has worked with dazzling stars like Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, Pharrell, Black Eyed Peas, Tiesto and more, and is best known for their signature plain white masks and synchronized dancing, taking guests on a magical musical journey unlike any other.
Vegan or not, you will find this year's Lantern Festival celebrations extra joyous, as it will be accompanied by the Vegan Festival which will be held from 16-17 Feb at Rotunda de Carlos da Maia.
