Players from Italian club Cagliari missed their flight to Milan for yesterday's top flight game after being locked inside their training ground by local farmers protesting over milk prices.
The Sardinian team were due to fly out Saturday before the game against AC Milan at the San Siro.
The players were unable to leave Asseminello training ground after all the exits were blocked by 100 farmers.
Coach Rolando Maran and the club's director general Mario Passetti negotiated with the protesters to allow the bus to leave for the airport.
Sardinian-born player Nicolo Barella and Brazilian teammate Joao Pedro joined in the protest and were filmed kicking over milk pails.
"We produce milk at one euro (HK$8.80) plus VAT and we aren't going back. If they aren't able to sell it at a decent price, that's not our fault," a protester said.
Cagliari are 15th in Serie A, four points off the relegation zone.
