An Australian woman member of the "Bali Nine" drugs gang freed after 13 years in an Indonesian prison went home yesterday to more possible jail time.
Renae Lawrence, 41, arrived in Newcastle, New South Wales, as the only one freed. She had been nabbed with 2.6 kilograms of heroin when set to fly from Bali to Australia.
Two ringleaders were executed by a firing squad in 2015, one gang member died of cancer and five remain locked up for life. Lawrence ignored a media pack at Newcastle airport and jumped into a vehicle for a getaway.
That was despite police wanting her on warrants dating from before she left for Bali in 2005. They relate to her part in a high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle.
Lawrence's life term in Indonesia was cut to 20 years and then reduced again for good behavior.
