SmarTone forges ties with hotelsBusiness | Gary Poon 10 Oct 2018
SmarTone Telecommunication (0315) has teamed up with local hotel operators and software developers to offer smart solutions, including checking in or out of hotels using mobile keys and an app for easy control of facilities inside a hotel room.
SmarTone chief executive officer Anna Yip said the company's enterprise solution service, notably smart home and smart hotel, posted strong double-digit growth over the past year and it expects strong market demand for its offerings.
She said two more hotels have agreed to employ SmarTone's smart hotel service which caters mainly to business travelers.
Yip said SmarTone's smart home service enables customers to get notified by the system and sensors in the event of any accident at home, such as fire or water leakage. Under SmarTone's smart hotel service, guests can check in via an electronic terminal and use their mobile devices to adjust air conditioning or lighting inside hotel rooms.
Meanwhile, Sun Mobile, a subsidiary of HK Telecommunication (6823), said it plans to raise service fees for its mobile services.
However, Yip said that SmarTone won't respond by raising its own service charges, adding the level of service fees depends largely on operating costs and other factors.
She also said SmarTone plans to undertake projects that will bolster the development of the company's 5G network.
